Students of the leading Turkmen higher education institutions won three silver and five bronze medals at the 9th Mathematical Olympiad, held in the city of Ohrid, the Republic of Macedonia. Over 90 students from 26 higher education institutions of Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Slovenia, Republic of Macedonia, and the Islamic Republic of Iran participated in the prestigious international competition. Ilshat Valiev, a second-year student of the Magtymguly Turkmen State University (the department of mathematics), Toremyrat Gurbanov, a second-year student of the State Power Engineering Institute of Turkmenistan, and Eziz Kakyshov, a third-year student of the Turkmen Agricultural University, have become silver medal winners in the contest with would-be luminaries in world mathematics. Palvan Agamyradov, a third-year student of the Magtymguly Turkmen State University (the department of mathematics) and Babanyyaz Agambaev, Begench Akyev, Agaserdar Yollyev, second-year students of the same department, Yhlas Gurbanov, a second-year student of the State Power Engineering Institute of Turkmenistan have become bronze medalists.
