Turkmen sportswoman Gulbadam Babamyradova,23, - Master of Sports of international class from Lebap in the under-52kg weight class - won a gold medal at the Open Asian Judo Tournament «Taipei-2015» completed in Taiwan. In the first single combat, our countrywoman won a victory over the host-country representative, then defeated a sportswoman from Slovakia, and in the final won Yura Kim from the Republic of Korea. The present great success of our countrywoman in the Open Asian Tournament «Taipei-2015» was remarkable, for it was achieved in judo, an Olympic sport discipline. A year ago, at the 17th Asian Games in Inch’ŏn, G.Babamyradova won silver medal, having, seemingly, restored the lost position of Turkmen sports in Japan wrestling at the largest complex international competitions. Indeed, before this significant event, for the last time Turkmen nationals rose to the pedestal of honour in judo in the Asian Games in 2002 in Pusan, where silver medal in the weight category under 66 kg among men was won by Guvanch Nurmuhammedov, and a bronze medal among women - by Nasiba Surkiyeva (under 78 kg). “Gold” victory won by Gulbadam Babamyradova in the Open Asian Judo Tournament inspires hope that our gifted sportswoman will be able to win an Olympic berth and worthily represent Turkmenistan at the upcoming XXXI Summer Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
