Such solution was adopted during the areal Championship of Asia (Central Asian area) which Tajikistan has recently hosted in its capital city – Dushanbe. Having taken the second place in the competitions of male group, our compatriot, International Master Yusup Atabaev, has won the right to take part in the World Championship to be held this year’s September in Baku, Azerbaijan. The tournament of the best chess players from the Central Asian countries was a 9-round Swiss system event. The fact that the two permits only will be played off in the male and female groups made the competition intense and uncompromising. The student of National Institute of Sports and Tourism scored 7 points from 9 possible - convincing victories in six games, ending two in a draw, and losing only one game. In autumn, Yu. Atabaev will have to compete for the World Cup major trophy. The tournament will be conducted by the Olympic system – knock-out games. In addition to the second place, Yusup won also the second point in his way towards the international grandmaster title, and considerably improved his world rating (2,435 points). To achieve the highest chess title’s qualifying standard, he needs to score one more point at the large international level tournament. Yusup can become the grandmaster already in the coming autumn – during the World Cup in Baku.
