On May 9, a significant date – the 70th year since the Day of Victory in 1941-1945 War – was widely celebrated in Turkmenistan. The heroes, who fought on the battlefields of the cruelest war of the 20th century, demonstrating unparalleled courage and heroism, were honored in all parts of the country. In the early morning, by well-established noble tradition, numerous residents and guests of Ashgabat gathered at the “Halk Hakydasy” Memorial Complex to pay tribute to the memory of those who had fallen for the sake of the bright future of the present and future generations of all the peoples of the world. Young soldiers – inheritors of the Turkmen people’ military traditions, patriotic precepts of our brave ancestors, were on guard of honor. Among honorary participants to the ceremony were gray-haired war veterans, as well as selfless home front workers. In the square in front of the Memorial, Turkmen soldiers, who are today entrusted to defend our country’s borders, independence of Turkmenistan and peaceful sky above, were standing shoulder to shoulder with veterans. To pay tribute to the deed of the peoples, who defended peaceful life and freedoms of the humanity, to honor the memory of those, who died for the bright future of the present and future generations, in the morning President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov went on a working visit to the Russian Federation to participate in the solemn events held in Moscow on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the War of 1941-1945 on the invitation of President of Russia Vladimir Putin. From the airport, the head of Turkmen state headed towards the Kremlin. In the Armorial Hall, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov was warmly welcomed by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. From the Kremlin, the President of Turkmenistan together with other high guests –heads of delegations, who had arrived in Moscow to participate in the anniversary events, proceeded to the Central Tribune in Red Square, where the ceremonial parade took place. The Turkmen people made a worthy contribution to the Great Victory. During the stern years of the war, thousands of Turkmen soldiers together with representatives of other fraternal peoples selflessly fought on the battlefields, demonstrating unexampled courage and heroism. Among them was a grandfather of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov Berdymuhammed Annaev, whose life serves as a role model of sincere patriotism, valor, fidelity to duty for Turkmen young people today. Upon completion of the Victory Parade, the President of Turkmenistan proceeded to the “Vnukovo-2” International Airport to depart for Ashgabat. In the square of the “Halk Hakydasy” Memorial Complex in Ashgabat, the State Anthem of Turkmenistan was played, marking the beginning of the solemn ceremony. Its chords were followed by the melody, which expressed the national sorrow over the defenders of the Motherland fallen in battles. A magnificent wreath was laid on behalf of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov at the “Baky Şöhrat” Memorial. Paying tribute of deep respect to the heroes fallen in the War of 1941-1945, war veterans, the Chairperson of Mejlis, government members, heads of military and law-enforcement bodies, ministries and departments, social organizations, foreign diplomats, as well as numerous representatives of work collectives, guests and residents of the capital laid flowers at the Monument. By minute’s silence the ceremony participants revered the memory of glorious sons of the Turkmen land, who had sacrifices their lives on the altar of Victory. In a few minutes, wonderful sweet-smelling flowers covered the pedestal of the Monument, like a carpet. The guards of honor ceremonially marched past the Memorial, measuring out their pace. The festivities, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory, were held in all parts of the country. Paying tribute of respect to valorous defenders of the Motherland, residents of cities and villages laid bouquets of flowers at the monuments, erected in honor of the National Heroes, who died a hero’s death in 1941-1945 War. Performances of creative groups took place on the concert stages in all velayat and etrap centers.
