Upon arrival in the Headquarter of the United Nations Organizations, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a meeting with Chairperson of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés (the Republic of Ecuador). Welcoming high-rank guest, the Chairperson of the UN General Assembly noted active position of our country in cooperation with United Nations, which is supported by the policy of Turkmen leader in promotion of atmosphere of goodwill and stability in Central Asia, provision of universal peace and prosperity. Having expressed the gratitude for good words, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés on the election to this accountable post, having highlighted that steadily implementing its neutral status, Turkmenistan develops fruitful international dialog improving friendship with neighbouring countries and with the other states of the planet. At the same time, our country pays special attention to traditional partnership with the UN, which has long-term character. During the meeting, the sides exchanged the opinions on perspectives and key directions of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations, which has growing dynamics proven by efficient contacts with the biggest UN structures, together with which successful profile projects have been implemented and are carried out in various spheres. This is indicated by the fact of election of our country in composition of one of the main UN authorities – the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for 2019 – 2021. In this context, it is remarkable that Turkmenistan has been already selected several times to the composition of competent United Nations structures including the ECOSOC (2013 – 2015) as well as the Vice-chairman of the UN General Assembly. At the moment, our country is the members of number of the UN Commissions, Committees and Councils, which opens wide capabilities for activation of cooperation in development of balanced solutions of topical issues and challenges of the present. Being one of the first countries to adapt the SDGs on national level, Turkmenistan actively participates in realization of 2030 Global Agenda and carries out this work on systematic base applying basic criteria and indicators of the Goals during development and implementation of integrated reforms. International initiatives of our country for provision of global energy security, activation of beneficial partnership in transport and communication sector, peaceful restoration of Afghanistan and its integration to the world economy, consolidation of efforts in solution of environmental issues including those related to the climate change, which have been supported and recognized by the United Nations, are to held to solve the objectives for implementation of the SDGs. Health protection sphere, which further improvement and development are among the priorities of the state policy of Turkmenistan, is an integral part of the SDGs. Thus, heads of relative structures of the Ministry of Health Protection and Medical Industry took part in High-level Sessions on elimination of tuberculosis and prevention of non-infectious diseases in New York on September 26 – 27 under the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly. Opening of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Ashgabat indicates strategic character of the partnership between our country and the United Nations Organization. In the end of the conversation, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the Chairperson of the UN General Assembly expressed the confidence that traditional dialog between Turkmenistan and the United Nations would develop successfully.
