Last week, a briefing was held in the Turkmen Hall of the Palace of Nations in Geneva (Swiss Confederation) on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality to be celebrated this year. The meeting, organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan to mark the Year of Neutrality and Peace was attended by heads of the diplomatic missions accredited to Switzerland, as well as representatives of authoritative international organizations. Attendees of the briefing, devoted to key priorities of the foreign policy course, pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, have emphasized the importance of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, whose principles are evidently becoming an integral factor of international policy and global sustainable development, serving as a basis for constructive interstate interaction. December 12, 1995 is a landmark date in the modern world history and international diplomacy, given the fact that independent Turkmenistan became the first neutral state, officially recognized by the United Nations. Following its course, all these years Turkmenistan has been taking an active part in tackling topical present-day issues, contributing to enhancement of universal security and sustainable development. Today, our country’s neutrality has been recognized as an effective mechanism not only of maintaining peace and the climate of trust in the region, but also of settling all global problems through exclusively political and diplomatic means. The briefing participants were also acquainted with the Plan of Activities to be held in our country and beyond in honor of the remarkable date in December.
