Last week, the Youth Olympic School hosted a ceremony in honor of the sportsmen, who had won the first medals (of all types) at the international junior short track speed skating competitions (short track is one of the forms of ice speed skating), held in the Korean town of PyeongChang. Prior to the competitions, a training course in speed skating was organized in the frames of preparations for the Winter Olympic Games to take place in the Republic of Korea in 2018. The “Dream program” also includes training sessions in skiing, snowboarding and figure skating juniors aged 13-17. The training course brought together hundreds of representatives from India, Qatar, Indonesia, Uruguay, Yemen, Paraguay, Uganda, Turkmenistan and other countries. Three sportsmen represented our country, and all of them returned home with medals. The skaters competed in a 500-meter event. Pena Ataev has won a gold medal for the Turkmen team; his result is 55.13 seconds. Sakina Gulamalyeva has become a silver medal winner, and Kuvatmurad Agamuradov – a bronze medalist. All the three of our young short track skaters are students of the Youth Olympic School and are trained by Aihanum Gulamalyeva. Our team’s coach, Yana Vahitova, whose many years’ coaching experience significantly contributed to the achievement of the first international success in speed skating competitions, deserves consideration as well.
