World Health Day, as a triumph of principles of friendship and peace, sports and humanism, occupies a special place in the national calendar symbolizing unity and cohesion of our society. Public physical and sports activities, recreational and cultural campaigns globally depict our independent country as the nation of health and inspiration, states the address by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Extensive scope of events organized on this occasion, specifically the successful continuation of the bike race that has started from the ancient Amul, and the track and field marathon along the Great Silk Road, embodies the creative energy of our epoch. Socio-economic potential and cultural development of the country are closely interconnected with the well-being and happiness of the people, health of the society, harmonious physical and spiritual development of generations. Under the slogan “The country is for the people” we implement major reforms in all spheres of public life; develop entrepreneurship; ensure decent living standards for the people of the country; build fine settlements, villages, and construct modern industrial complexes. Guided by the principle “People’s health is wealth of the nation”, we devote great attention to the development of public physical education, Olympic movement and sports thus nurturing physically and spiritually healthy generations, notes the President in his address. Major sporting and equestrian event venues, stadiums, sports academies and other facilities shaping the sports infrastructure matching the world standards were built over a short period of time. Together with that, much work was done to create the advanced healthcare system through building medical facilities, specialized hospitals and health resorts equipped with innovative technology in Ashgabat and provincial capitals. Being the member of the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia, our sovereign country also greatly contributes to the development of the global Olympic movement. The 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games demonstrated the enormous athletic potential of our country. This year, when we celebrate the slogan “Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road”, we will host the “Amul–Hazar 2018” international rally, and the Word Weightlifting Championship. I trust that these international competitions will go down in the history of sports, and further raise Turkmenistan’s international profile, stresses the message. Concluding the address, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov wished the people of Turkmenistan good health, well-being, happiness and great success in their work.
