A two-day OSCE seminar has opened in the capital’s Ýyldyz Hotel. It focuses on a comprehensive approach to combating extremism and radicalism in the modern world. Among those attending the event, organized by the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, are representatives of various ministries and agencies of Turkmenistan, public organizations, international organized crime and terrorism experts, officials of the OSCE Secretariat, specialists of the relevant organizations from the USA, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Seminar participants noted that the fight against violent extremism and radicalism is becoming increasingly effective through building an international system to combat the negative phenomena, and long-term coordinated efforts by different countries. Special emphasis was placed on Turkmenistan’s unique experience of preventing radicalization, particularly among young people. As noted, our country’s neutral status and peacekeeping role in the region and in the world, as well as President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s far-sighted and constructive policy, aimed at encouraging the all-round development of young people and instilling the Turkmen people’s time-honored high moral values and humanistic principles in them, have made it possible to effectively countering extremist ideologies in all their forms and manifestations. In this context, the experts highlighted that Turkmenistan’s achievements in this area are of particular interest to the global community and authoritative organizations in their fight against terrorism, and our country’s experience may significantly contribute to improving the international practice of preventing and eradicating such transnational threats. The two-day international seminar will consider concrete steps towards strengthening cooperation, and different national approaches to defeating violent extremism and radicalism.
