Elections of members of the Sixth Convocation of the National Parliament, people’s councils and local councils took place in Turkmenistan. The right to represent voters in the National Parliament, local executive authorities and local government bodies was claimed by the worthiest citizens of the country who have earned great respect and trust of their compatriots. Several candidates were registered for every seat in the National Parliament, people’s councils and local councils. Today’s elections therefore, as well as all previous ones, were held on a widely competitive basis, in accordance with the principles of democracy and transparency. According to the Central Commission for Holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan, as of 19:00, Ashgabat time, 91.69 percent of the eligible electorate cast their vote at the election of members of the National Parliament; 91.75 percent voted at the election of members of provincial, district and municipal people’s councils; and 91.68 percent attended the election of members of local councils. Over 16 thousand people voted at polling stations abroad.
