The elections of the deputies of Mejlis of the VI convocation, Halk Maslahaty and Gengesh members are held in Turkmenistan on the wide alternative basis. According to the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan, the polling stations in all the constituencies opened on time – at 7 o’clock in the morning. By 12 pm, 54% of the voters cast ballots in the election. Thus, according to the Central Election Committee, the elections are recognised as valid. As is known, the large-scale preparatory work has been done to run the current electioncampaigs. In particular, 489 candidates were registered for velayat Halk Maslahaty; 2,570 candidates - for etrap and city Halk Maslahaty; 13,215 candidates were registered for Gengesh, and 284 candidates - for Mejlis deputies. The candidates were nominated by the political parties and civil groups. The current elections are distinguished for the fact that some polling stations arrange the oline broadcasting so that anyone can watch the elections on the website of the Central Election Commission. The elections are being closely monitored by international and local observers.
