In the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, a meeting was held with Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Thomas Greminger, who arrived in our country to participate in the 28th session of the Energy Charter Conference. The subject of an exchange of views was the key directions for the development of long-term effective international partnership models during Turkmenistan’s presidency of the Energy Charter Conference in 2017, as well as prospects for cooperation in a context of the recently adopted socio-economic development program for the next seven years. Special attention was paid to the implementation of international initiatives put forward by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and supported by the world community, as enshrined in the relevant UN Resolutions. As was noted, energy security, the state of which influences the stability of a geopolitical situation on the continent, as well as the nature and content of macroeconomic processes, is the most important topic on the Turkmenistan-OSCE cooperation agenda that has an impact on vital interests of all countries and nations. It was pointed out in this regard that the energy dialogue has to be intensified, using the mechanisms of multilateral consultations on political, financial, economic, technological and environmental aspects of energy security, and the creation of a diverse international energy supplies infrastructure, based on fair, equal and transparent partnership, should be stimulated. The present meeting of the Energy Charter Conference is seen as an important and effective step in this direction, the OSCE Secretary General said, having expressed confidence that Turkmenistan, with its neutral status, can and should play one of the leading roles in consolidating the efforts of states in order to create an effective and fair model of mutual relations in the world energy market. As a member state of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Turkmenistan supports the establishment of a wide-ranging cooperation within the OSCE, intended to have a significant impact on the global development processes. Our country fully supports the Organization’s commitment to strengthening and expanding the patterns of interstate partnership, and is ready to further contribute to strengthening of the OSCE positions in the world, promoting its ideals and values. At the end of meeting, which was also attended by the head of OSCE Center Natalia Drozd, the sides confirmed that Turkmenistan and the OSCE attach great importance to further expanding the fruitful partnership on the principles of mutual respect and understanding, and are aimed at a full-scale dialogue on topical issues of our time.
