Within the framework of the top-level talks with the President of Azerbajan, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that in January – June, 2017, the trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan had increased up to 40 percent as compare to the same period of 2016. It was underlined that the existing mutual opportunities had not being used in full, and the current level of the trade partnership does not reflect the real potential of the two countries. In this regard, the head of Turkmenistan suggested to jointly analyze the state of bilateral trade relations and the dynamics of trade. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan had created a powerful industrial and agricultural base, modern transport infrastructure, and now it was necessary to launch large-scale projects of industrial cooperation, interaction in the service sector and the agricultural complex. Petrochemical, gas chemical and electric power industries as well as communications and telecommunications spheres were specified among the priority spheres for cooperation. The head of state also told about transport initiatives in the Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey and Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Turkey formats. Turkmenistan also welcomes the project on Baku-Tbilisi-Kars transport corridor that will connect the railway networks of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. The project that will promote the development of trade relations in the region is close to completion.
