During the Turkmen-Kazakh talks in Astana, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov specified energetics as a strategic area of partnership between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. The Turkmen leader mentioned Turkmenistan – China gas pipeline, built in 2009 as an example. The implementation of this unique project is of particular importance for the development of energy cooperation in Eurasia. In particular, it opens up new opportunities for Kazakhstan to supply gas from Kazakhstan to China and make a profit off of the transit of energy products through the territory of the country. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov underlined that initiating these and other energy projects, Turkmenistan relies upon the necessity to integrate the neighbouring states into a new architecture of energy supplies on the continent. According to the Turkmen leader, it is very illustrative that Kazakhstan consistently supports Turkmenistan’s initiatives in this sphere as a co-author of two relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly in 2008 and 2013.
