Successful Debut in Sapporo Promotes Turkmenistan’s Ice Hockey National Team to the First Division

Turkmenistan’s national ice hockey team clinched a win in second division tournament at the 8th Winter Asian Games in Sapporo, Japan. Today, in the final match, they confidently beat the Kyrgyzstan team with a 7:3 score and secured a spot in the first division at Asiada–2021. Our hockey players, who represent the four Ashgabat clubs (Galkan, Shir, Oguzkhan and Nesil) made their first appearance at such prestigious tournament. On their way to finals they gained three wins – over the national teams of Malaysia (9:2), Macao (16:0) and Indonesia (12:2). They will now participate in the Asian Cup to be held in Kuwait in April. Our national team will be playing in the first division. Outstanding performance in this tournament will guarantee a promotion to the highest division.
