On 27 November 2024, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Pia Kauma, who arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the second Ashgabat conference “Parliamentary Diplomacy in the OSCE Area: Dialogue as a Tool for Building Bridges for a Secure and Peaceful Future”.

Thanking the head of state for the time devoted for the meeting, Ms. Pia Kauma noted that the OSCE attaches great importance to the development of interaction with neutral Turkmenistan, which stands for the consolidation of peace and well-being in the region and the world as a whole.

Welcoming the guest, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the forum dedicated to the role of dialogue in ensuring peace will allow to discuss present issues of bilateral cooperation. The head of state wished the conference successful work and expressed confidence that the visit will give a new impetus to further strengthening of partnership between Turkmenistan and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

It was noted that independent Turkmenistan, committed to the legal status of permanent neutrality, twice recognized by the relevant UN General Assembly Resolutions, consistently pursues positive foreign policy. It was underlined that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of effective interaction with respected international organizations, including the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

During the meeting, it was said that inter-parliamentary relations act as an important mechanism in strengthening mutual understanding and trust between countries and peoples. In this context, the dynamic nature of fruitful bilateral dialogue was voiced. As an example, the active participation of the delegation of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan in the sessions of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and relevant events was mentioned.

The parties spoke about the prospects of cooperation. They underlined the importance of coordinating joint efforts in the field of economic development, ensuring reliable transit of energy resources, taking into account ecological well-being and environmental protection, as well as rational use of water resources.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed readiness of Turkmenistan to assist development of efficient collaboration within the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to address the pressing challenges of present time and wished Ms. Pia Kauma good health, prosperity and success in her responsible work.
