Turkmen athletes participated in 138 international competitions overseas and won 643 medals (221 gold, 196 silver and 226 bronze). This is for 232 medals more than in previous year. This are 86 prizes during world’ tournaments, 291 during Asian cups and 266 at other prestigious competitions. There were 192 internal competitions and 89 mass sport events in Turkmenistan. The measures for development of sport, mass physical and health-improving movements in the country were steadily implemented. Multi aspect works for preparation to V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games were continued. The ministries and departments of the country as well as foreign companies working in Turkmenistan were involved as sponsors of Turkmen sportsmen in 21 sports included into the programme of the Games. Training camps, competitions and tournaments were regularly held in the country. There were international test competitions on the base of the Olympic village among large sport events. Six international championships were held in 2016. They are Asian Sambo Championship on May 26 – 30, Asian Turkmen Gyoresh and Belt Wrestling Championship on June 25 – 30, Tennis Tournament on Spetember 16 – 25, track and field competition on September 23 – 26, 3 X 3 basketball competitions on November 4 – 7, Asian Jujitsu Tournament on December 7 – 12. During all competitions, our national teams won first places in total team count. On behalf of the President of Turkmenistan, all winners were ceremonially awarded with valued prizes and automobiles. The equestrian marathon in honour of 500-days countdown until the beginning of V Asian Games started at the monuments of Ancient Nissa in the final day of all nation action “Health and Happiness” and “Turkmenistan – the country of high spirit and good health” sports contest on May 5, 2016.
