Today in Turkmenistan, elections of deputies of the Mejlis, members of the velayat, etrap and city halk maslahaty, as well as Gengeshes are being held on a broad alternative basis.
The most deserving people who enjoy great respect and trust of their compatriots claim the right to represent their voters in the national parliament, local executive authorities and local self-government. Several candidates have been registered for one seat of a deputy of the Mejlis, members of the halk maslahaty and Gengeshes - thus, like all previous elections, the current elections are held on a broad alternative basis, on the principles of democracy and openness.
According to the Central Commission for holding elections and referendums in Turkmenistan, at the time set for voting - at 7 am - all polling stations were opened simultaneously in the territory of the constituencies.
For 9 hours, 22.01 percent of the total number of voters took part in the elections of members of the Mejlis, members of the velayat, etrap and city halk maslahaty - 22.09 percent, Gengeshes - 22.30 percent of the electorate.
Voting is also organized at polling stations abroad.
As you know, the current elections were preceded by a lot of preparatory work. In particular, 515 candidates were registered for members of the velayat and 2001 members of the etrap and city halk maslahaty, 12,098 members of the Gengeshes and 258 applicants for the seat of the deputy of the Mejlis, whose nomination was initiated by political parties and groups of citizens.
The election process is monitored by international and national observers.
