The title of vice-champion of Asia with three medals in the snatch, clean and jerk and combined total was won by Turkmen Surajbek Sapaev at the ongoing Asian weightlifting championship among youths and juniors in the capital of Uzbekistan. This success was achieved by a student of the 11th grade of the 2nd comprehensive school of the Gurbansoltan eje etrap of the Dashoguz velayat in the competition of young men not older than 17 years old in the category up to 96 kg, in which 5 athletes competed for awards.

Of the six valid attempts, Surajbek converted three, which were enough to win bronze in the snatch (135 kg), silver in the clean and jerk (159 kg) and another silver medal in the combined event (294 kg).

As a result, our weightlifter was 4 kg ahead of Amirhossein Sepah Ajerlu (Iran), who closed the top three winners - 290 kg (135 + 155) and lost 5 kg to Abrorbek Marufbekov (Uzbekistan), who became the champion of Asia - 299 kg (136 + 163).

The 17-year-old owner of the first sports category Surajbek Sapaev is engaged in weightlifting in the Gurbansoltan eje etrap of the Dashoguz velayat with the honored coach of Turkmenistan Mumin Redjepov, at the training camp in Ashgabat he improves his skills under the guidance of the head coach of the youth team of the country Akhmed Sariyev.

The Asian Championship among youths (not older than 17 years old) and juniors (not older than 20 years old) is held at the Yunusabad sports complex in Tashkent.

261 athletes from 21 states compete for championship medals in two age categories at once. The teams of Japan and China, which are considered leaders in weightlifting, do not participate in competitions due to the epidemiological situation in their countries.

It should be recalled that earlier Turkmen weightlifters won 11 medals at this championship. Gold medals in our team in the younger age group (not older than 17 years old) were awarded to a student of the 10th grade of the Ashgabat secondary school No. 104 Medina Amanova (weight category up to 64 kg) and a student of the 11th grade of the Ashgabat secondary school No. 20 Saparly Mukhiev (up to 89 kg).
