Our sportsmen have made great success in the 8th International Martial Arts (Wushu) tournament held recently in the capital of Georgia - Tbilisi: eight medals (three – gold; two –silver; and three –bronze) have been added to the sports “medal box” of Turkmenistan. The competitions brought together about 400 participants of various age groups from 9 countries – Russia, Turkey, Iran, Bulgaria, India, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and others. Sportsmen competed for the medals in two disciplines –sanda (single combat) and taolu (complex exercises). Turkmen sportsmen performed only in single combats. Each of the eight sportsmen of our national team took an honourable place at the pedestal of winners. Ashgabat resident Charyklych Tagangylyjov was without parallel in male group (under 60 kg) competitions. On the way toward gold medal, he won two resolute victories over Georgian sportsmen and in the final - over the representative of the Iranian team. In addition to his gold medal, the organizers of the tournament awarded Ch. Tagangylyjov a special prize –“For the best technique”, and it is quite natural, as a trainee of Yazmyrat Annamyradov - he has never lost in the international sports arena. This was the eight-time participation of Ch. Tagangylyjov in the foreign country and the eighth gold medal. Another gold medal in the male group was won by Dashoghuz sportsman Saparmyrat Janayev. A trainee of Dovletgeldi Sapardurdyev, he was the best in the weight class under 65 kg. The third victory for the team of Turkmenistan was won by Mekan Paltayev (his coach Sylap Atayev) from Mary who distinguished himself in the 14-15-year age group (under 60 kg). Silver medals were won by the namesakes from Ashgabat – Nurmyrat (under 75 kg) and Bairammyrat (under 52 kg) Babayevs. The third position at the pedestal of honour was taken by the capital’s sportsman Bashim Geldyev (under 60 kg) as well as Aygozel Gurbangeldyeva (under 48 kg) and Merjen Saparova (under 52 kg) from Dashoghuz.
