Today, in Turkmenistan the mournful date - Remembrance Day of victims of the Ashgabat earthquake of 1948 as well as the heroes who fell on fields of battles of all wars is marked. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the flower-laying ceremony at monuments of the Memorial complex «Halk hakydasy».
Remembering brave defenders of our native land and victims of natural calamities - one of the humane traditions of Turkmen people originating from the depth of millennia. This noble principle adequately proceeds in the Era of Revival of the new epoch of the powerful state that is of great importance to pass to the present generation the heroic way of our ancestors, education of the youth in the spirit of patriotism. On Remembrance Day, all over the country the sadakas are given, prayers for the peace of soul of heroes of our fatherland are read and memorial rites are observed. Today, we honour the memory of our compatriots who were tragically perished in the Ashgabat earthquake, brave defenders of our fatherland and war heroes of 1941-1945.
No matter how much time has passed since then, the present generation highly honours the feat of heroic defenders of our native land, who gave their lives for the bright future of future generations. Hard experiences fell upon the fate of Turkmen people many times. Thanks to selfless love to their native land, unity and belief in their own strength and cheerfulness, Turkmens could withstand in days of heavy losses.
The memorial complex «Halk hakydasy», which stretches in the southwest part of the capital, has become a symbol of deep honouring of national heroes, respect of people for the great past.
… Today, early in the morning, our compatriots honoured the memory of national heroes and laid wreaths at the pedestals of monumental monuments «Ruhy tagzym», «Milletiň ogullary», «Baky şöhrat», located in the territory of the complex.

The national anthem of Turkmenistan sounds. It is changed with the sad melody «Keçpelek», which has become a unique musical expression of national grief of fallen heroes of our native land and victims of natural calamities.

Tragic memoirs of the Ashgabat earthquake of 1948 - one of the most destructive in the history of humanity still fill the hearts of Turkmen nationals with grief. The ruthless elements fully destroyed the prospering city and its vicinities, took away lives of thousands of our compatriots. That terrible night Berdimuhamed Annayev - the great-grandfather of the head of the state who showed heroism on fields of battles of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, the man and teacher who was respected by all and who devoted his life to education of the youth, was also perished. Those who experienced the Ashgabat earthquake displayed a high example of selflessness, firmness and courage.
Thanks to successful realisation of the town-planning program initiated by National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and nowadays successfully carried out under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, in the recent years Ashgabat has turned into one of the most beautiful cities of the world. It has become a place of peaceful life, the centre of regional and global cooperation, and large international forums. Dreams of our ancestors of the bright future and happy destiny of the Turkmen people were embodied in its new shape. Outstanding achievements of the capital in all spheres receive wide recognition at the international level.
Construction of convenient housing, medical centres equipped with innovative technologies, schools and childcare centres, sports complexes, social and cultural projects are signs of the new epoch of sovereign development of our country. Transformations are aimed at progress and prosperity of Turkmenistan, growth of well-being of the population, maintenance of high standards of living of each family. For the past years, Ashgabat was included in the Network of UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the “Design category” and received membership in the World Federation of Tourist Cities, and by the decision of the Commonwealth of Independent States was declared "the City of new sports possibilities of the Commonwealth”. In recent years, the white marble-coated capital has been included in the UNESCO’s Global Network of Learning Cities that became a recognition of high achievements of the city as the large centre of science, education and culture.
The prestige of our wonderful capital as regional and international centre of diplomacy and neutrality grows steadily. Location of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in Ashgabat testifies to adherence of our country to principles of peaceful disposition, friendship and good neighbourhood.

Then, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov laid beautiful wreaths of autumn flowers at the pedestals of monuments «Milletiň ogullary» and «Baky şöhrat», erected in honour of the heroes who fell in battles for freedom and the prospering future of our fatherland. As an imperishable symbol of undying national memory of valorous sons of the Turkmen land, the Eternal fire burns there.
The heroism shown by our fathers and grandfathers, is an example for the growing generation. Their feat entered by gold letters in the history of Turkmen people. In all fronts of the Great Patriotic War, thousands of our fellow citizens showed unprecedented firmness and patriotism, remaining true to the soldier's duty. Valour, courage, fearlessness and heroism shown in violent fighting by soldiers and national heroes, who gave their lives for freedom, are an example of a great school of love to our fatherland and people.
… Then, the Chairwoman of the Mejlis, deputy-chairmen of the Cabinet, heads of military and law enforcement bodies, public organisations, deputies of the national parliament, head of diplomatic representative offices accredited in Turkmenistan and international organisations laid flowers. Representatives of diplomatic missions of our country abroad, ministries and departments, respectable elders, student youth, residents of the capital also joined them.
Memory - the main component of the spiritual life of people, it connects generations of people, fills life with a special, secret sense, allows to realise the present and confidently to look into the future with touching the past. Only in the society where people know their past and respect it, lives that great force, which allows accumulating and realising patriotic and creative potential of the nation. Our memory, our immense gratitude to the senior generation find reflexion in the concrete affairs aimed at strengthening peace, further development of the independent Turkmen state, preservation of high humanistic traditions in society.
In the past meeting of the Khalk Maslakhaty on the eve of Independence Day President Serdar Berdimuhamedov underlined that modern achievements of Turkmenistan evoke in us a true feeling of patriotism and national pride. To ennoble the authority of our independent neutral fatherland - Turkmenistan, to love our native land, people and to be proud of them - a duty of each of us.
The year of the 35th anniversary of sacred independence of our fatherland was declared «Independent neutral Turkmenistan - the homeland of purposeful winged horses» and it testifies that values and noble principles, left for the world by our ancestors, make a basis of statehood of sovereign Turkmenistan. The country has marked the glorious anniversary of independence with large scale celebrations devoted to noble horses, which were at all times faithful companions of brave soldiers both in battles, and in days of festivals.
As the President of Turkmenistan noted, today in our country observes Remembrance Day, and we honour the memory of the deceased. The head of the state also underlined that bouquets of flowers were laid in memory of those who are gone and wished that Almighty would accept prayers read and sadakas given.
On completion of the ceremony, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov warmly said goodbye to its participants and left the place.
Funeral prayers and sadaka were also organized in Arkadag city and in all velayats of the country.
The present ceremony in the Memorial complex «Halk hakydasy» became another bright symbol of continuity of traditions of great ancestors and an indissoluble link of generations for augmentation of high spirituality of our people.
