On December 19, 2025, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov had a meeting with the leadership of leading companies of Japan in the framework of his working visit to this country.

The heads and representatives of such companies as Sumitomo Corporation, Toyo Engineering Corporation, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., Muroosystems Corporation, ITOCHU Corporation, Tokyo Boeki Eurasia Limited, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., Mitsubishi Corporation, ARGONAVT Corporation, as well as Çalık Holding, Gap Inşaat ve Diş Ticaret A.Ş. were among the participants.

Opening the event, the Chairman of the Japan-Turkmen Committee on Economic Cooperation and Executive Vice President of ITOCHU Corporation expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for the time he devoted to the meeting and emphasized that the current Forum would provide impulse to further expansion of trade and economic cooperation between the two friendly countries.

Then the floor was given to the President of Turkmenistan.

After greeting the leadership and representatives of leading Japanese companies, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed his gratitude for organizing this meeting and the opportunity to thoroughly discuss the current state and prospects for further development of the Turkmen-Japanese economic partnership.

It was noted that Turkmenistan continues to consistently deepen its strong and successful cooperation with Japanese companies, while aiming to achieve new, more ambitious and large-scale goals. It was emphasized that the achievements of Japanese companies in science, industry, production process management, and corporate management serve as an important benchmark for modernizing and enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy of Turkmenistan.

Recognizing the need for comprehensive economic model update, Turkmenistan is focusing on a number of priority tasks. These include the implementation of innovative development strategies, accelerated industrialization, “green transition”, diversification of the energy sector, as well as the development of national, international transport and logistics connectivity. In this regard, high appraisal and gratitude was expressed to major Japanese companies for their long-standing successful work in Turkmenistan.

It was emphasized that companies such as Itochu, Kawasaki, Mitsubishi, Sojitz, Toyo, Mitsui, Sumitomo, Komatsu, Toyota, and others continue to make significant contribution to the development of economy of Turkmenistan.

In recent years, large, modern industrial facilities have been commissioned in Turkmenistan with the participation of Japanese companies. These include gas chemical complexes for the production of ammonia and urea in Mary and Garabogaz, the polymer plant in Kiyanly, the natural gas-to-gasoline plant in Ovadandepe, as well as the gas turbine power plant in Charjew district.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov confirmed the readiness of Turkmenistan to offer Japanese business community favorable conditions for long-term investment and mutually beneficial partnerships.

Commitment was expressed to actively promote Japanese technologies and products in the Turkmen market, primarily in such areas as mechanical engineering, electronics, as well as the chemical industry.

The adherence of Turkmenistan to attracting advanced Japanese technologies and practices in water conservation and management, waste recycling, as well as green and hydrogen energy was also noted.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said that as it is known, the importance of the transition to circular economy was discussed during the meeting in April. Today, special attention is being paid to this issue in Turkmenistan.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed developing a project to build a modern plant for recycling household and construction waste.

Along with this, the head of state noted the feasibility of a project aimed at improving waste water management for reuse in industry and public utilities, confirming his willingness to explore projects to build mini-plants for recycling PET plastic bottles to reduce the volume of plastic in the environment and recycle polyethylene.

To reduce the amount of hazardous waste containing metal, plastic, and electronic components, the President of Turkmenistan proposed exploring the possibility of implementing a mini-plant for recycling household appliances.

Concluding his speech, President Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that this meeting would be another important step toward implementing new joint initiatives and projects that meet the interests of both sides.

Expressing his gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for the time devoted to the meeting, the representatives of business community acknowledged the importance of the proposals outlined in the speech and voiced their readiness to cooperate in the given field.

Then the ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place.

On the same day, an official dinner on behalf of the Prime Minister of Japan Takaichi Sanae in honor of the Presidents of Central Asian states took place.

The working visit of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Japan continues.
