On April 30, 2025, a telephone conversation took place between the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan and the Federal President of Germany, having warmly greeted each other, expressed satisfaction with the high level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Germany.

At the beginning of the telephone conversation, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty thanked the Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany for his readiness to hold a telephone conversation and conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The National Leader of the Turkmen people also noted that he recalls with warm feelings the meeting within the framework of the Central Asia-Germany Summit.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier expressed his gratitude for the kind words, noting that relations between the two countries are developing on a systemic and long-term basis, and conveyed his best wishes to the head of state.

The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan stated that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of cooperation with Germany, noting that the legal basis of relations consists of about 100 bilateral documents.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people expressed gratitude to the German side for its consistent support of our country's neutrality and international initiatives.

The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan noted that the forum, scheduled to be held in Ashgabat on December 12 this year, is one of the main events held in Turkmenistan on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality and the International Year of Peace and Trust, and in this regard expressed hope for the participation of President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in this international conference.

During the exchange of views on the current state of bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic sphere and the prospects for its development, the interlocutors noted that mutual trade turnover is increasing from year to year. In this regard, the role of the Joint Turkmen-German Working Group, as well as the activities of the Eastern Committee of the German Economy and the German-Turkmen Forum were particularly emphasized.

The Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan highlighted the chemical industry, transport, agriculture, healthcare and textile industry as promising areas of bilateral economic cooperation and proposed establishing cooperation on a permanent basis with German companies operating in these areas, such as BASF, MAN, Deutsche Bahn and Thyssenkrupp, while noting the importance of continuing the fruitful partnership with Siemens and Knauf.

At the same time, the green economy, renewable energy sources, water resources management and innovative technologies were identified as new areas of cooperation.

Among other important areas, the banking sector was highlighted, where our country cooperates with such German banks as Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, and Deutsche Bundesbank.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people noted that industrialization is proceeding at a rapid pace in our country, emphasizing that Siemens turbines are used in the gas sector.

The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan also confirmed Turkmenistan’s interest in cooperation with the well-known German companies Thyssen Schachtbau GmbH and Schachtbau Nordhausen GmbH to establish the Garlyk mining complex for the production of potash fertilizers – the only one of its kind in the Central Asian region, and in using BASF’s experience in the chemical industry.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan noted that rich experience has been accumulated in bilateral cooperation in the field of healthcare and currently German-made equipment has been introduced in many medical institutions of Turkmenistan. In this regard, the importance of the Turkmen-German Forum on Healthcare was also emphasized. Dozens of projects have been implemented jointly with the German Society for International Cooperation within the framework of country and regional programs.

During the exchange of views on issues of Turkmen-German partnership in the fields of education, culture and archeology, it was noted that Turkmenistan has always shown great interest in studying the German language, and in this regard, our country's readiness was expressed for further development of effective cooperation with the Goethe Institute, the programs of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), School: Partners of the Future (PASCH) and the Pedagogical Academic Exchange Service (PAD).

It was emphasized that cultural and humanitarian cooperation remains one of the important areas of relations between the two friendly countries. The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan noted that the archaeological exhibition of Bronze Age artifacts "Margiana" was successfully held in Germany in 2018-2019, proposing to hold a second cycle of this exhibition.

During the conversation, the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan invited the Federal President of Germany to visit Turkmenistan on an official visit at any convenient time.

At the end of the telephone conversation, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier wished each other good health, happiness, and well-being and prosperity to the peoples of both countries.
