On April 3, 2025 President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the President of the European Council António Costa.

Greeting each other, the Head of State and the President of the European Council expressed satisfaction for opportunity to meet in the framework of the Summit and discuss the current state and prospects of interaction.

Noting that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of cooperation with the European Union in political and diplomatic, trade and economic, cultural, humanitarian, transport and communication fields, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the meeting would contribute to the enhancement of multilateral partnership with the EU.

It was further noted that in recent years the interaction between Turkmenistan and the European Union in political-diplomatic sphere has become active. The partnership in the Central Asia-European Union format is a vivid example of this.

Noting the importance of the recent meeting of the foreign ministers of Central Asia and the European Union in Ashgabat, the President of the European Council expressed confidence that such high-level events are aimed to contribute to the consistent development of multidimensional and long-term partnership between the two regions.

In this context, the importance for the region of further development of effective and mutually beneficial cooperation with the European Union, taking into account the potential of the Central Asian states, was emphasized.

The President of Turkmenistan together with the countries of the region and reputable international organizations is actively developing such promising transport corridors as North-South and East-West expressing confidence that they will serve as a reliable bridge for expanding cooperation with the countries of the Eurasian continent and for promoting trade and economic ties.

On the initiative of Turkmenistan, a special Resolution of the UN General Assembly declared 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust”. On this occasion, Ashgabat is preparing to host a representative International Forum of Peace and Trust dedicated to the 30th anniversary of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan, noted the Head of State, inviting the President of the European Council António Costa to participate in the forum.

Highly appraising the level of development of Turkmenistan's dialog with the European Union, the Head of State reaffirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to further strengthen fruitful relations.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of the European Council António Costa exchanged wishes for good health, prosperity and great success in their activities.
