First UNESCO Club opened in Turkmenistan

On July 22, the opening ceremony of the first in our country UNESCO Club "Languages of the World" was held at the Turkmen National Institute of World Languages named after Dovletmammet Azadi. The organizers of this project were the Secretariat of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO and the administration of this university.

The opening ceremony was attended by teachers and students of this university, representatives of public organizations and local media.

The main goal of the creation of the UNESCO Club is to unite student youth and adults into a UNESCO club for joint activities in the field of science, culture and education to promote the humanistic principles and ideals of UNESCO, the ideas of peace and mutual understanding between people. The task of the Club is to continue the development of the directions of the international organization, including intercultural communications, the development of a tolerant attitude towards other cultures, the preservation of cultural historical values, and the protection of nature.

As part of the opening ceremony, the participants were told about the importance of the UNESCO Club in shaping young people's knowledge about the culture, traditions and customs of their country, gaining experience in creative and search activities. During its course, the participants were invited to the Club room, equipped in accordance with modern standards, where they got acquainted with UNESCO documents, information materials on the activities of UNESCO and objects of historical and cultural heritage of the Turkmen people included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.

The opening ceremony of the Club was accompanied by discussions and musical performances by students of this university.

The UNESCO Club "Languages of the World" is a voluntary public association of students, graduate students and teachers of this only Turkmen university in the field of linguistics, as well as participants and supporters of the international movement of UNESCO.

The main activities of the UNESCO Club "Languages of the World" are: intercultural communication, participation in scientific and educational projects. As part of the activity, it is planned to hold forums and seminars on participation in the SDG 4 - Education-2030 program. The Club will cooperate with public organizations and cultural centers of our country and regional Associations of UNESCO Clubs.

...UNESCO Clubs began to emerge among the ruins immediately after the end of the Second World War. The first UNESCO Club was established on July 19, 1947 on the basis of the State University in the Japanese city of Sendai, it brought together teachers and students who wanted to take part in the work of the international Organization.

In the near future, it is planned to open UNESCO Clubs at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and one of the regional universities of our country.
