International Gusman Kosanov Memorial Track and Field Tournament, which is held for 29 times already, has started in Almaty. This year, more than 250 sportsmen from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Iran, India, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan. Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan take part in representative competitions. In addition, famous Russian sportswoman, long jumper Darya Klishina participates in the tournament as neutral athlete. Turkmenistan national team is represented by six sportsmen at the XXIX Gusman Kosanov Memorial. In the first day of the competitions, our athletes won three medals – one gold, one silver and one bronze. Nobody was equal to the 2nd grade student of Turkmen State Architectural and Construction Institute Alisher Sadullayev at the distance of 200 meters, which he covered in 21.77 seconds and Valentina Meredova, who represented the Ministry of Construction and Architecture, won the third place and bronze medal in the same discipline. Her result was 24.83 seconds. Mergen Mammedov, who represented the Federation of Field and Track of Turkmenistan, was left one step from the highest step of the pedestal. He threw the hammer for 66.54 meters and won silver medal. It is worth to remind that the Gusman Kosanov Memorial is held as a tribute to one of the best sprinters of the 50s and beginning of the 60s and thought to be one of the best field and track tournaments on Asian continent. In addition, these prestige competitions are licencing contest for the sportsmen who try to be qualified for the World Track and Field Championship, which would be held in Doha, the capital of Qatar in September this year, as well as for the Summer Olympic in Tokyo next year.
