Delegation of Turkmenistan made a working visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Republic of India. At the recent Government session, Vice Premier, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, has presented the report on the outcomes of negotiations in Islamabad and New Delhi. As reported, issues of development of the interstate cooperation, including the activities of the bilateral Intergovernmental Commission, have been placed on the agenda of the Turkmenistan–Pakistan political and economic consultations that took place on 15 January. The sides engaged in an extensive exchange of views on intensification of international and regional cooperation. Special emphasis has been placed on implementation of joint projects for the construction of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India transnational gas pipeline, the fiber-optic communication and power lines along the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan route. The working visit entailed an Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on abolition of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports. As part of the Turkmen delegation’s working visit to the Republic of India, a bilateral meeting took place in New Delhi between the ministers of foreign affairs, where a wider range of issues of interstate cooperation was discussed. Focusing on traditionally friendly Turkmen-Pakistani and Turkmen-Indian relations, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has stressed that the major project for the construction of the TAPI pipeline, whose significance goes beyond regional boundaries, has become a milestone event in the history of bilateral cooperation. Stating that neutral Turkmenistan intends to intensify cooperation with Pakistan and India, and more broadly, with its neighbors in the Asian region, the head of state gave the Vice Premier, head of the MFA, several specific instructions to diversify partnership and develop its new, promising vectors with regard to current realities.
