Conference hall of the Ministry of Culture held the award ceremony of the title of Honoured Elder of the Nation to famous sculptor, People’s Artist of Turkmenistan, teacher of the art school under the State Arts Academy Saragt Babayev who celebrated his 70th anniversary. The members of the Government, famous art and culture figures, students and followers of his art gathered to honour the master. Warm congratulation and wishes of further success were addressed to Saragt Babayev who made big contribution in the development of art traditions of Turkmen people and in the education of talented youth. The participants of the ceremony noted that honouring of prominent representative of modern Turkmen art in the first day of New Year indicates the greatest attention the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov pays to cultural sphere in the life of our country and society. Turkmen leader comprehensively supports creative people inspiring them for making new works reflecting the achievements of modern age and the wealth of spiritual and art heritage of Turkmen nation. Fountain complex “Oguzkhan and sons” is among the best works of the famous sculptor and included to the Guinness World Records Book as the one that unites the most number of fountains in public place. This architectural ensemble is located at the entrance of Ashgabat International Airport and is the first sightseeing that the guests of Turkmen capital see when they arrive in Ashgabat. Number of works by S. Babayev commemorated sculptural images of the great heroes of Turkmen history in Independence Park where majestic Independence Monument is raising. The monument dedicated to famous scientists and authors in Ylham (Inspiration) Public Garden is among famous works of the master. Saragt Babayev was born in 1948 in Yarygeokja, Babadayhan etrap. After the army service, he graduated State Art College in Ashgabat and after Moscow State Art Institite. From 1983, he is the member of the Union of Artists of Turkmenistan. From 1990, he is the lecturer of specialized school under the State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan and from 2004 – the teacher of the Arts Academy itself. The master created number of bright works of monumental art. Some of his followers and researchers of his art like one of his works while others like something else. However, all art scientist have common opinion that Arkadag Monument embodying the image of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in all his magnificence riding ahalteke horse and symbolizing the unity of Turkmen people and national leader is the main masterpiece of the sculptor. Astrakhan and Ankara have the monuments of Magtumguly Fragi. His bronze composition “Mother’s Memories” is exhibited in Tretyakov’s Gallery, “Mother’s Portrait” in Russian Arts Academy. The works of Saragt Babayev reflects the desire of the artist to reveal bright, strong characters and remarkable events. - This is exciting day for me today, - S. Babayev says. – I was touched by the attention of the Head of the State who takes care of the development of culture and art and encourages people who glorify the Motherland by their works. All my time I dedicate to work taking the inspiration, new ideas, subjects and more strength from the history, nature and the life itself.
