On the occasion of the 26th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence, the State Internet Provider, Türkmentelekom, and the City Telephone Network will launch a promotional campaign: from 5 to 31 October subscribers will be offered to connect to unlimited Internet under reduced tariffs. 256 kbps Internet connection will be offered at the rate of 135 manats per month (190 manats previously); 512 kbps connection will be available at a monthly rate of 150 manats (250 manats previously); 2048 kbps will be available at 250 manats per month (service unavailable previously). People in rural areas will be able to subscribe for 256 kbps unlimited Internet connection at the rate of 75 manats per month, which will increase manifold the number of Internet users in remote areas of Turkmenistan. This is especially important in the context of modernizing the information and communication systems and expanding the scope of their geographic coverage within the country. As seen in the statistics of the Ministry of Communication of Turkmenistan, the number of users of the worldwide network in our country is increasing steadily. For example, by September 2017 the number of people connected to the Internet network through ADSL technology has increased 2.3 times, or by 230 percent compared to January 2016. This indicates that, as a result of integrated modernization and diversification of the sectoral infrastructure, and use of cutting-edge equipment and innovations, a deployed communication system is functioning in the country, making Internet available to every citizen of the country. Apart from offering Internet services on request, Turkmenistan sees a increase in the number of universities with an access to the world-wide network. Equipping scholar and pedagogical facilities with computers and multimedia devices allows conducting classes using modern educational methods; ensures Internet access; opens up wider possibilities for organizing the educational process and training professionals in accordance with global standards. As President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed in his keynote speech at the recent session of the Council of Elders, public availability of Internet in our country will allow accelerating economic growth. Relevant communication hardware enables distribution of enormous volumes of information, resulting in cardinal changes in our lives and work. Moreover, majority of control, management and maintenance functions that still require human labor will be soon fully automatized thanks to connection of equipment to the Internet. In this context, the current offer by Türkmentelekom and the Ashgabat City Telephone Network for unlimited Internet will become a new step in development of telecommunication network in Turkmenistan, making high-quality communication services available to all and widening the people’s outlook through integration into the global information space.
