Gaining 13 medals in Baku, the Turkmen athletes are preparing for the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat

In the capital of Azerbaijan, the Baku Olympic Stadium hosted the closing ceremony of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games. Complex competitions in 20 events brought together more than 3,000 athletes from 57 states. At these games, the Turkmen athletes won 13 medals (two gold, four silver, seven bronze), that secured them the 15th place in the team standings. In the national team of Turkmenistan, boxers have more awards – three medals of different denominations. Arslanbek Achilov – the best in the weight category under 81 kg, became the gold winner. Yakub Meredov (under 59 kg), the representative of the Central Army Sports Club of Ministry of Defense, won the silver medal. Student of the National Institute of Sports and Tourism Horsant Imankuliev (under 60 kg) picked up the bronze award. In the weightlifting tournament, schoolgirl of the 11th form of the Ashgabat secondary school #36 – Polina Guryeva (under 63 kilograms) gained the gold medal. In the snatch, our compatriot easily coped with a weight of 88 kg, in the clean and jerk – fixed 105 kg overhead, having the total sum in the double-event – 193 kg. In the weightlifting competitions, Gulnabat Kadyrova (under 69 kg) won one more silver medal, figuring out the final result – 224 kg (99 kg snatch and 115 kg clean and jerk). Moreover, in the first discipline and in the total sum of double-event, the Turkmen sportswoman set up new national records, exceeding by 4 kilograms her previous achievements, recorded during the current year’s Asian Championship in Ashgabat. In swimming, Merdan Ataev won two medals at once – two silvers, in the 50-meter sprint heats and the 100-meter backstroke. In both disciplines M. Ataev set up national records: in the first distance the highest point now is 25.82 seconds, and in the second one – 55.44 sec. The Greco-Roman fighters contributed two “bronzes” to the Turkmen national team – Seidulla Tazaev (under 59 kg), as well as Shermet Permanov (under 75 kg). In wrestling freestyle competitions, Yusup Melejaev (under 97 kg) gained the bronze award. In judo, trainer of the physical culture school #2 of Galkynysh etrap of Lebap velayat, Mariya Lohova won the bronze medal. And in the wushu tournament, Annageldy Agamyradov distinguished himself by the bronze prize in weight category under 56 kg. Let’s highlight the display of the women’s tennis team (Anastasia Prenko, Jahan Bairamova and Guljan Muhammetgulyeva), which won the third place in the team competition. In the framework of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, it was held the presentation of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Azerbaijani Republic jointly with the State Committee for Sport, in a conference hall of the Marriott Hotel. International sports festival in Baku reached completion. But not so much time separates us from the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which will gather in Ashgabat about 5,000 athletes from 62 countries of Asia and Oceania.
