Gold and silver medals were gained by the Turkmen sportsmen in Baku at the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, which gathered more than 3,000 athletes from 57 countries. Both awards were picked up in the weightlifting competitions. Also the capital of Azerbaijan, in the “Marriott” Hotel, hosted the presentation of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games forthcoming in Ashgabat. Polina Guryeva (weight class under 63 kg) coped with the 88-kg barbell in snatch, in clean and jerk – fixed 105 kg, having the total sum in double-event – 193 kg, became gold medal winner. Gulnabat Kadyrova (under 69 kg), the participant of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, whose final result was 224 kg (99 kg – snatch and 115 kg – clean and jerk), won silver award. In the discipline of “snatch” and in the total sum of double-event, Gulnabat has set up new national records. Let’s look back to the previous results. Mariya Lohova won a bronze medal in the judo tournament in the category under 70 kilograms. Another “bronze” was won in tennis, where the women national team – Jahan Bairamova, Anastasia Prenko and Guljan Muhammedkulieva, distinguished itself. Playing on the national team, by the high rate Merdan Ataev put himself on record, who at 100-meter distance got the title of vice-champion in swimming. On May 14, another Turkmen athlete – Horasan Imamkuliev (weight category under 60 kg) won a bronze medal in Boxing Competitions. Considering the current achievements, the sports team of Turkmenistan has already won five medals (a gold, two silver and two bronze) that seats our athletes in the top ten in the overall standings among 57 countries. In the framework of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, it was held the presentation of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Azerbaijan jointly with the State Committee for Sport of Turkmenistan. It was marked the growing potential of Turkmen athletes. As an example, there were mentioned three Asian Championships – Kickboxing, Weightlifting and Swimming, held in Ashgabat in April, where the Turkmen sportsmen won 96 medals (30 gold, 32 silver and 34 bronze). There was also submitted an information about the architectural achievements of Ashgabat, entered the Guinness Book of World Records.
