Early voting has started in Turkmenistan in the run up to the election of Mejlis deputies to substitute the ones leaving on the end of their tenure of office in some constituencies, as well as Khalk Maslakhaty and Gengesh members due to the changes in the regional administrative-territorial system. To ensure the proper procedure in accordance with Article 73 of the Election Code of Turkmenistan, members of the election commissions have prepared everything necessary for those, who are going on long-term business or vacation trips, and those, who, for whatever reason, will not be able to come to a polling station on the polling day to cast their vote. 255 polling stations with necessary equipment and information materials have opened in the constituencies. More than 300 national observers from political parties, public associations, groups of citizens and candidates are monitoring the early voting process. They are authorized to visit the constituencies prior to the election and on the polling day. This will create prerequisites for holding the highly competitive and transparent elections on a democratic basis on May 21.
