The Asian Swimming Championship started in the capital’s Olympic Village, which brought together about 100 participants from Iran, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and other countries. The program of the tournament includes only sprint distances (50 and 100 meters). The four medal events will be held such as backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and complex relay. On the first day our swimmers won five prizes (one gold, three silver and one bronze medals). On the top step of the podium was Merdan Atayev, being out-of-reach in the 100-meter backstroke discipline. This distance was passed by the participant by the Rio-2016 Olympic Games (Brazil) in 54.86 seconds. Merdan also won silver award in the 4x50-meter complex relay, where he performed together with Berdyguly Saparov, Ruslan Nazarov and Ilya Klyubchenko. Another award in the collection of Turkmenistan team is the silver medal in the 50-meter crawl discipline, where 15-year-old Daria Semyonova achieved a success. She overcame this distance in 34.89 seconds. Our women’s team composed of K.Velieva, L.Ataeva, E.Begmyradova and D.Semyonova won second place in the 4x100-meter relay. In addition, Enesh Begmyradova took the bronze medal in the 100-meter backstroke. At the end of first day, the Turkmen swimmers are in the fourth position in the team event after the teams of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Iran.
