On the third day of the Asian Weightlifting Championship in progress within the Olympic Village, two medal events were held in the weight category up to 63 kilograms among women and up to 69 kg among men. In the competition among women a confident victory was gained by representative of the team of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Un Sim Rim who won three gold medals. In the snatch discipline she was able to show 106 kg, and in jerk 131 kg, having lifted a total of 237 kg. Siripuch Gulnoi of Thailand (231 kg) was second on the podium. The same result was also shown by athlete Nien-Hsin Chiang of Chinese Taipei, but she was lost to the ratio of her own weight. In the men’s event weightlifter Albert Linder of Kazakhstan was on the top, having taken two gold medals. He lifted 187 kg in jerk, having broken in the clean and jerk combination a total of 335 kg. He was also awarded a silver medal for his performance in the snatch discipline, where he broke the weight of 148 kg. Chol O Hang of DPRK (331 kg) took second place and the top three was closed by Ledong Fing (325 kg) of the Chinese team. The best result in our team was shown by Tolkunbek Hudaibergenov, who was in the top six of the Asian Championship, breaking the weight of 297 kg. Another Turkmen athlete Meretguly Sahetmyradov closed the top seven (294 kg). On the fourth day of weightlifting competitions, another two medal events will be held in the weight categories up to 69 kg among women and up to 77 kg among men. On April 26, two more Asian Championships in swimming and kickboxing will start in the Olympic Village, for participation in which the strongest masters of these sports from many countries of the Asian part of the continent have arrived in Ashgabat.
