In his speech at the OEC Summit in Islamabad, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, speaking about the large-scale regional projects initiated by Turkmenistan, noted that the engineering of energy and transport-transit corridors within the Organization for Economic Co-operation stimulates the implementation of other infrastructure projects. In particular, it was noted the possibility to lay new electrical systems and other utilities by the side of the pipelines erected. President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov reminded that in December 2015, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan signed the tripartite document on cooperation in the electric-power industry, according to which, it is contemplated the formation of appropriate infrastructures for delivery of electric power from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Today, the work on a laying fiber-optic line project in this trilateral format is underway. Noting that on November 14-15, 2017 Ashgabat will host the seventh Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan, the head of state said that during this forum one would be acquainted point by point with the implementation of suchlike and other projects of regional significance. The President of Turkmenistan emphasized that the achievement of the peace, security and reconciliation in Afghanistan was and is the basic progress conditions in the region. All our political-diplomatic efforts and initiatives are aimed at achieving this goal, the Turkmen leader continued, this points to the fact of full support of brotherly Afghanistan’s efforts to stabilize the situation, restore socio-economic infrastructure in the country. For many years, Turkmenistan has provided specific economic and humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, which is vividly shown in construction of medical and educational institutions on the territory of the neighboring country, the electric supply at preferential prices, training of the Afghan students at our country’s educational establishments, the systematic provision of humanitarian assistance, as well as other types of support. All of this is financed by own funds of Turkmenistan. Such support will continue henceforth, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov declared. In the current period, manifestation of some positive signs in the intra-Afghan political environment, this support is particularly important, the Turkmen leader highlighted. The participation of Afghanistan in the implementation of major regional and international infrastructure projects is more effective method in this direction, the Turkmen leader said, noting that particular in this we see a strategic future for Afghanistan, its role in regional and global issues, a pledge of prosperity and well-being of the Afghan people.
