On May 22, 2026, a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Ashgabat.

As part of Turkmenistan's chairmanship of the CIS in 2026, meetings of various councils, commissions, and other events are being held. Our country takes this important mission very seriously, striving to fully facilitate the successful joint resolution of the tasks set.

Representative delegations from CIS member countries arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the regular meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The Garagum Hotel, which provides all the necessary facilities for both hosting foreign guests and organizing major international events, served as the venue for the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States. On behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the delegation of Turkmenistan was led by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers H.Geldimyradov.

Addressing the participants of the meeting, which began in a narrow format, the head of the Turkmenistan delegation conveyed greetings and best wishes for success on behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Sincere gratitude was expressed to those gathered for accepting the invitation to visit Ashgabat to discuss priority areas of cooperation within the CIS. Turkmenistan's commitment to strengthening and expanding interstate partnerships that serve the interests of common well-being was also reaffirmed.

The floor was then given to the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Sergey Lebedev, who presented the relevant information on the meeting's agenda and regulations. Following their approval, a lively exchange of views took place on current issues of cooperation within the CIS, particularly the prospects for mutually beneficial trade and economic partnership.

The meeting then continued in an expanded format. It was preceded by a joint photograph of the heads of delegations against the backdrop of the official banner of the CIS Council of Heads of State, the national flags of the CIS member states, and the CIS Flag.

During the meeting, a constructive exchange of views took place on priority issues of interstate partnership. The Turkmen side placed particular emphasis on strengthening mutually beneficial economic cooperation, expanding transport connectivity, developing digital technologies, and establishing modern mechanisms for industrial cooperation.

Prospects for partnership in congress and exhibition activities and the digital transformation of industrial sectors were also discussed. An exchange of views took place on cooperation in a number of other areas. Relevant organizational matters were also considered as part of the meeting agenda.

Following the meeting, a signing ceremony was held for the final documents, including the Decision to declare Minsk (Republic of Belarus) the CIS Youth Capital in 2027 and Karaganda (Republic of Kazakhstan) the CIS Youth Capital in 2028.

The results of the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States were announced at a press conference. As reported, a lively discussion took place on a wide range of cooperation issues within the CIS. The meeting's high organizational level and effectiveness were emphasized. Relevant decisions were made on all agenda items, and a number of documents were signed. Confidence was expressed that the meeting's outcomes will contribute to the further development of a diverse, mutually beneficial partnership and integration processes within the Commonwealth.

Deep gratitude was expressed to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Hero Arkadag, National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, for their attention and assistance in organizing the current meeting, which was held at a high level, in a businesslike atmosphere, in an atmosphere of open, constructive dialogue, and for creating the necessary conditions for successful joint work.
