Today, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov departed on a working visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan to participate in the Regional Ecological Summit and the regular meeting of the Council of Heads of State–Founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.

The head of Turkmenistan arrived at the capital’s International Airport to depart for Kazakhstan. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was seen off by officials at the airport.

Strengthening friendly, constructive, and partnership relations with countries of the region is one of the priorities of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, successfully implemented under the leadership of the head of state. In this context, particular importance is attached to consolidating efforts to address environmental problems in Central Asia.

Taking a responsible position in developing solutions to pressing issues on the regional agenda, our country puts forward concrete initiatives that meet common interests. In this regard, it should be noted that at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the President of Turkmenistan proposed the development of a comprehensive UN environmental strategy for Central Asia.

Sustainable economic growth of the Motherland is closely linked to environmental protection policy. Our country consistently implements the National Climate Change Strategy, which calls for the introduction of “green” technologies in all sectors of the economy.

Turkmenistan actively cooperates with the United Nations and other major international organizations in this important area. The initiatives put forward by our country at high-level forums—having joined dozens of UN environmental conventions—receive broad support from the international community. These include proposals to establish a UN Regional Center for Climate Change Technologies in Central Asia in Ashgabat, to develop a UN Water Strategy, a Special UN Programme for the Aral Sea region, to define the Aral issue as a separate area of UN activity, as well as to preserve the ecological well-being of the Caspian Sea.

Issues related to the Aral Sea are a priority vector of regional partnership. In this regard, Turkmenistan pays great attention to promoting water diplomacy. To this end, during its chairmanship of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, our country proposed the development of a Central Asian Water Strategy.

In this context, Turkmenistan advocates for a more concrete and broader discussion of the Aral issue, including the development of measures to support the activities of the IFAS based on relevant resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly.

Overall, the environmental initiatives put forward by our country are directly aligned with the key objectives of the United Nations, primarily ensuring universal peace and stability and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

…A few hours later, the aircraft of the President of Turkmenistan landed at Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport in the city of Astana. Along both sides of the carpeted pathway stood soldiers of the honor guard.

At the air harbor, decorated with the state flags of the participating countries of the Summit, the head of state was warmly welcomed by Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov and members of our country’s delegation.

The working visit of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Kazakhstan continues.
