On March 20, 2026, a telephone conversation took place between the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

After exchanging greetings, the interlocutors sincerely congratulated each other and the peoples of the two countries on Eid al-Fitr.

Since time immemorial, our peoples have celebrated this bright holiday, uniting us and symbolizing shared historical roots, cultures, and traditions. As the National Leader of the Turkmen people emphasized, March 21 will mark the spring holiday of Nowruz, symbolizing renewal and bright dreams. Taking this opportunity, on behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, he conveyed to the President of Uzbekistan sincere greetings and congratulations on Eid al-Fitr.

The President of Uzbekistan also conveyed heartfelt congratulations to his brother, the esteemed Serdar Berdimuhamedov, on the fourth anniversary of his election as President of Turkmenistan, emphasizing the head of state's enormous contribution to strengthening Turkmen-Uzbek friendly and fraternal relations.

As the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan noted, at present, along with the development of bilateral cooperation, our countries are expanding humanitarian ties.

Emphasizing that the joint celebration of such events strengthens friendship, brotherhood, good-neighborliness, and mutual understanding between the two peoples, and also gives new impetus to cooperation in various fields, the National Leader of the Turkmen people expressed confidence that the solid foundation of Turkmen-Uzbek relations is largely determined by a shared commitment to the lofty ideals of peace and justice.

During an exchange of views on the current state of bilateral relations, the interlocutors noted the consistent development of cooperation in all areas.

As emphasized, high-level meetings are organized effectively and on a regular basis, opening up new prospects for cooperation.

Continuing these relations this year, we plan new meetings for dialogue on bilateral cooperation, as well as on regional and international issues, said Hero-Arkadag, emphasizing that in this regard, Turkmenistan will host important summits this fall – the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan, as well as the CIS Heads of State Summit. During the upcoming summits, an exchange of views on a wide range of important issues is planned.

Noting that major cultural and humanitarian events are also planned for the two summits, Hero-Arkadag invited President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to visit Turkmenistan at the head of a representative delegation.

Turning to issues of bilateral cooperation, the interlocutors noted with satisfaction the fruitful nature of the activities of the Turkmen-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation.

The stable dynamics of mutual trade turnover were noted. In this context, border trade zones play a key role.

Reaffirming their commitment to improving the quality of bilateral cooperation and implementing mutually beneficial joint projects, the parties noted that our countries possess significant potential and the necessary industrial and technological base for this purpose.

The parties emphasized that Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as fraternal countries committed to peace and good-neighborliness, must maintain regular dialogue on important regional and international policy issues.

Noting the need to further develop relations in science and education, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to continuing cultural exchanges, cross-cultural Days, joint arts festivals, and other events.

In this regard, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, on behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, expressed gratitude to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the attention being paid to developing bilateral cooperation.

During an exchange of views on upcoming large-scale joint work, the interlocutors emphasized that Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are successfully addressing important issues aimed at strengthening peace, good-neighborliness, stability, and security in Central Asia in the interests of the well-being of the two fraternal peoples.

At the conclusion of the conversation, the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev once again sincerely congratulated each other on Eid al-Fitr and the upcoming Nowruz holiday and exchanged wishes for good health and success in their government endeavors, as well as peace and prosperity for the fraternal peoples of the two countries.

The telephone conversation took place at the initiative of the Turkmen side.
