Preparations are gaining momentum for the elections of members of the Halk Maslahaty in the newly established etraps of the country’s velayats, as well as for the election of deputies to replace those who have departed early from the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, members of velayat, etrap and city Halk Maslahaty, and Gengeshes. The elections are scheduled to take place on March 29, 2026.

In accordance with national legislation and the approved plan, large-scale work on nominating candidates—one of the key stages of the current electoral campaign—is ongoing throughout the country.

At present, meetings are being held in the velayats and in the city of Ashgabat to nominate candidates from the Democratic Party, the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, and the Agrarian Party of Turkmenistan, as well as by groups of citizens. During these meetings, the most worthy representatives of the people are delegated to the country’s legislative bodies, local executive authorities, and local self-government bodies.

It should be noted that the nominated candidates are highly respected and hardworking individuals, among whom are many experienced specialists employed in various sectors of the national economy.

In accordance with the Electoral Code, an unlimited number of nominees may be considered. In every electoral district, several candidates are nominated for each seat, which fully corresponds to the principle of alternative elections.

The transparency and objectivity of the electoral process will be supported by the participation of national observers appointed by political parties, public associations, and groups of citizens.

The nomination process is taking place amid high voter activity, largely facilitated by outreach work with the population organized locally by activists of public organizations and representatives of state structures at all levels.

The elections scheduled for March 29 will mark an important step in the context of democratic transformations and reforms launched in Turkmenistan at the initiative of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Hero-Arkadag, and currently being carried out under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The success of these initiatives has stimulated the country’s accelerated development as it confidently advances toward new and ambitious achievements along the path of progress and innovation.

In this context, the upcoming elections and the ongoing nomination campaign serve as clear evidence of the irreversibility of democratic reforms in the modern Turkmen state and society. The further development of these processes, which today are acquiring qualitatively new content and substance, remains one of the main priorities of the policy of the head of Turkmenistan.

Thus, the forthcoming regular elections represent an event of exceptional importance, intended to further strengthen the foundations of democracy and the state sovereignty of the Motherland.
