Today, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who is on a working visit to Dushanbe, met with President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.

Warmly welcoming the high-ranking Turkmen guest, the President of the friendly country expressed gratitude for accepting the invitation to visit the Republic of Tajikistan and noted that the current visit of the head of Turkmenistan would further strengthen the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries.

Expressing his gratitude for the invitation and hospitality, the President of Turkmenistan conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to President Emomali Rahmon from the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag.

The head of state also expressed appreciation to President Emomali Rahmon for his participation in the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held in Avaza in August this year, and for his personal contribution to the development of friendly relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tajikistan.

The President of the friendly country extended his best wishes to the Hero-Arkadag and emphasized the importance of mutual high-level state visits.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan and Tajikistan share common and similar positions on key issues of global and regional politics and expressed gratitude to the Tajik side for supporting Turkmenistan's policy of positive neutrality and its international initiatives.

It was noted that the two countries have accumulated positive experience in working together within international organizations, primarily the UN. Tajikistan supported the adoption of numerous UN General Assembly resolutions proposed by Turkmenistan and acted as a co-author. In turn, Turkmenistan highly values Tajikistan's international efforts and supports its fruitful initiatives in various international organizations.

The parties also exchanged views on cooperation between Central Asian countries in the field of regional security and environmental protection. In this regard, the importance of the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation, held in Dushanbe in May of this year, was highlighted. This conference demonstrated the crucial role of glaciers in maintaining ecological balance and addressing water-related issues. Trade and economic cooperation is also one of the priority areas of bilateral relations.

The parties noted the advisability of taking necessary measures to fully unlock the potential of both countries in this area, increase the volume of mutual trade, and diversify economic ties.

In this context, the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Tajik Commission on Trade, Economic, and Scientific-Technical Cooperation plays an important role. Its most recent meeting was held in Ashgabat in October 2024. It was proposed to hold the next meeting of the commission in the near future.

Turkmenistan and Tajikistan also attach great importance to the development of cultural relations. Cooperation in the scientific and educational sphere remains one of the key areas.

At the conclusion of the meeting, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to further developing and strengthening traditionally friendly relations and exchanged best wishes.
