During his working visit to the United States, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the Federal President of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen.
After warmly greeting each other, the two leaders expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to meet during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly and expressed confidence that the current talks would facilitate a fruitful exchange of views and identify areas for the further development of interstate cooperation.
As noted during the meeting, the Republic of Austria is one of Turkmenistan's long-standing and important partners in the European region.
The parties also acknowledged the positive nature of the established political and diplomatic ties. Turkmenistan and Austria currently cooperate successfully not only bilaterally but also multilaterally, particularly within the UN.
Trade and economic cooperation is a priority area of bilateral cooperation. The importance of the work of the Turkmen-Austrian Joint Commission was particularly emphasized. Cultural and humanitarian cooperation also plays an important role in strengthening interstate ties. Turkmen musicians regularly participate in festivals held in Austria. Holding the Vienna Ball in Turkmenistan has become a well-deserved tradition.
Noting that 2025, declared by the UN at Turkmenistan's initiative as the "International Year of Peace and Trust," marks the 30th anniversary of our country's permanent neutrality, the head of state invited the Federal President of the Republic of Austria to participate in the International Forum to mark this significant date, which will be held in Ashgabat on December 12.
Gratefully accepting the invitation, the Austrian President emphasized that Turkmenistan's policy of neutrality makes an important contribution to ensuring global peace and enjoys broad support from the international community.
At the end of the meeting, Head of State Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Federal President of the Republic of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen wished each other good health and success in their responsible work, and peace and prosperity to the friendly peoples of the two countries.
