President of Turkmenistan meets with the President of the European Commission

On April 3, 2025 President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who is on a working visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan to participate in the first Central Asia-European Union Summit, met with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

Expressing satisfaction with the opportunity to meet with the head of the European Commission in Samarkand, the head of state wished successful work to the Summit.

Expressing confidence that this high-level meeting will provide an opportunity to analyze the current state of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as to discuss the prospects for further development of interaction, the sides emphasized that it would contribute to the solution of the key tasks to intensify relations between Central Asia and the European Union.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen noted the interest of the European Union in strengthening multilateral partnership with the countries of Central Asia, including Turkmenistan.

As the head of state emphasized, Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the expansion of constructive ties with the European Union. In line with the “green” energy policy promoted by the EU, our country pays special attention to the introduction of new technologies and ensuring the stability of energy resources.

Within the framework of cooperation, Turkmenistan is also successfully implementing projects in such spheres as lawmaking, science and education, agriculture, environmental protection and combating climate change.

The Head of State noted that In honor of declaring 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust” in accordance with the UN General Assembly Resolution adopted on the initiative of our country, a representative International Forum of Peace and Trust is planned to be held in Ashgabat in December this year to mark the 30th anniversary of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan and invited Ursula von der Leyen to take part in it.

In addition, the President of Turkmenistan thanked the President of the European Commission for her personal contribution to the development of relations between Turkmenistan and the European Union.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen expressed confidence in further successful development of partnership based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit and exchanged best wishes for each other.
