On April 3, 2025, a meeting took place on the margins of the First Summit “Central Asia-European Union” between President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odile Renaud-Basso.

Having exchanged warm greetings, the interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to meet within the framework of the high-level forum dedicated to the expansion of cooperation between the two regions.

The head of state noted that Turkmenistan attaches special importance to strengthening international partnership in the implementation of the economic development strategy, in particular, intensifying relations with reputable financial organizations and credit-banking structures. In this regard, the effectiveness of Turkmenistan’s long-term cooperation with the EBRD was noted.

Highly appraising the level of economic development of Turkmenistan, Odile Renaud-Basso reiterated the interest of the organization headed by her in further expansion of mutually beneficial contacts.

Noting the ongoing work on the development of multi-vector and regionally significant international transport corridors North-South and East-West, the head of state reiterated Turkmenistan’s readiness to consider specific proposals of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on participation in projects implemented in this regard.

Emphasizing the issues of enhancing cooperation in the energy sector, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that along with diversification of this sphere, our country is carrying out purposeful activities to develop “green” energy that is clean and environmentally friendly.

In this context, it was noted that there are vast opportunities for the EBRD to participate in the projects and new initiatives in the field of sustainable energy being implemented in Turkmenistan.

According to the head of state, Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of the agricultural sector, in particular, to the economical and rational use of water resources. In this regard, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan supports cooperation of the relevant departments of our country with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on construction of irrigation facilities and introduction of high-tech special equipment.

The head of state said that Turkmenistan advocates the use of new, more effective forms of partnership of national banks and private sector with this major international financial organization, noting the expediency of activation of financial-credit and consulting services for the development of small and medium-sized businesses. At the same time, the President reiterated our country’s readiness to expand mutually beneficial cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
