On April 2, 2025, the National Leader of Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with the President of the Olympic Committee of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani.

After warmly greeting each other, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan and Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani exchanged congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of the blessed Eid al-Fitr.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to meet in person, the guest conveyed greetings to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, as well as wishes for success and prosperity from the Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani.

Expressing his best wishes to the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Hero-Arkadag noted that he warmly recalls his recent telephone conversation with the head of the friendly state.

The National Leader of Turkmen people also expressed confidence that the visit of Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani to our country will give new impetus to the activation and development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Olympic Committee of the State of Qatar in the field of sports.

As was noted during the meeting, Turkmenistan takes an active part in international sports cooperation and the Olympic movement, and has extensive experience in successfully holding world level competitions. A clear example of this is the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games held in Ashgabat in 2017.

The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to partnership with international specialized organizations in this important area. The creation of appropriate modern infrastructure, provision of favorable conditions for athletes, and holding international competitions are key vectors of Turkmenistan’s sports policy.

Noting that present meeting will be an important step in taking sports cooperation to a new level and will contribute to the development of the Olympic movement, the National Leader of the Turkmen people expressed confidence that the visit of the President of the Olympic Committee of the State of Qatar to our country will give impetus to further cooperation in this area and the promotion of new initiatives.

During the meeting, Hero-Arkadag highly appraised achievements of Qatar in the development of sports, confirming Turkmenistan’s readiness to expand partnership in this area. Taking the opportunity, the National Leader of Turkmen people invited the Qatari side to take part in the International Forum to be held in Ashgabat on December 12 in honor of the significant date - the 30th anniversary of the permanent neutrality of the Home.

The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan also expressed gratitude to Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani for his great personal contribution to enhancing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Olympic Committee of the State of Qatar and for supporting initiatives of Turkmenistan in this area.

At the end of the meeting, the National Leader of Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the President of the Olympic Committee of the State of Qatar Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani expressed their best wishes to each other.
