On March 12, 2025, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Sikela.

Expressing gratitude for the meeting, the European Commissioner emphasized that the European Union highly appreciates the multifaceted cooperation with Turkmenistan.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov warmly welcomed Jozef Sikela and empasized that a number of meetings are scheduled to take place during his visit to Turkmenistan, including the visit to the Turkmenbashy International Seaport, which is one of the largest ports in the region. Confidence was expressed that the current visit of the EU representative will create an opportunity for an exchange of views on the current and prospective areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union.

The successful development of Turkmenistan’s partnership with the European Union, including the intensification of political and diplomatic ties, was emphasized during the meeting.

Great importance was attached to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation both in the bilateral format and within the framework of the “Central Asia-EU” format.

It was underlined that Turkmenistan is successfully implementing projects with EU participation in such areas as science and education, ecology, energy, development of transport and transit corridors. Given the favorable geographical location of Turkmenistan, the expansion of transport connectivity is of strategic importance.

In this regard, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan is actively working on the development of favorable transport corridors such as North-South and East-West.

The head of state highlighted the special importance of the Turkmenbashy International Seaport, the capabilities of which allow to significantly reduce the route and time of large-scale cargo flows, providing favorable conditions for access to the Black Sea coast, Europe, the Middle East, South Asia and the Asia-Pacific region. In this regard, assuredness was expressed that the port will serve as a reliable bridge in the development of trade-economic ties between the countries of Eurasia.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Sikela expressed confidence in further development of mutually beneficial cooperation and exchanged best regards.
