Talks between the President of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of Georgia

On March 7, 2025, talks were held between the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, who arrived to Turkmenistan with an official visit.

Warmly welcoming the head of the Georgian Government, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Georgia is a friend and reliable partner of our country. The head of state expressed confidence that the current visit of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to Turkmenistan will contribute to the development of bilateral cooperation and enrich it with new content.

As emphasized, Turkmen-Georgian relations, traditionally friendly and constructive, are based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and trust. An important aspect of the agenda of the interstate dialogue is trade and economic cooperation. Positive results of cooperation in the fields of energy, industry and healthcare have been achieved.

One of the main areas of bilateral partnership is also the sphere of transport and logistics. In this context, Turkmenistan expresses interest in the implementation and development of such projects as the Black Sea-Caspian Sea transport route, Lapis Lazuli, as well as “Green Ports”.

Our countries, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted, today there is sufficient potential to bring Turkmen-Georgian cooperation to a qualitatively new level that meets real opportunities and mutual objective needs. At the same time, the President of Turkmenistan spoke in favor of strengthening bilateral cultural and humanitarian contacts, where there are great prospects for interaction and exchange of experience in the field of culture and art, science and education, holding joint events, exhibitions and conferences.

The head of state also underlined that Turkmenistan highly appraises Georgia’s support in implementing its peacekeeping initiatives. One of them was the proposal to declare 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust”, which is embedded in the relevant UN General Assembly Resolution of March 21, 2024.

Noting that on December 12 of this year, a representative Forum of the International Year of Peace and Trust will be held in Ashgabat, which coincides with a historic date – the 30th anniversary of the recognition by the United Nations of the status of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to the upcoming high-level meeting.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, the head of state also conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to the President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili.

Expressing sincere gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for the warm welcome, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze confirmed Georgia’s interest in further strengthening and developing the traditionally friendly dialogue and mutually beneficial partnership with Turkmenistan. Having conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President Mikheil Kavelashvili to the head of Turkmenistan, the Prime Minister emphasized that Georgia highly values the constructive policy of neutral Turkmenistan and welcomes its active efforts aimed at ensuring peace in the region.

Noting the positive dynamics of interstate political and economic relations, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze also spoke in favor of further development of productive cooperation in the implementation of transport and logistics projects and in the energy sector.

It was emphasized that the bilateral documents prepared for signing at today’s meeting of the delegations of the two countries will give new impetus to the Turkmen-Georgian partnership.

During the detailed discussion of a wide range of issues of interstate cooperation, its priority areas at the present stage and in the context of plans for the future were specified.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze exchanged best wishes to each other, confirming the mutual interest of Turkmenistan and Georgia in the further dynamic development of a multifaceted partnership built on an equal, mutually beneficial and long-term basis.

As part of the official visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to Turkmenistan, negotiations were also held between the delegations of the two countries, the agenda of which included key issues of cooperation in various fields.

Following the talks, a number of bilateral documents were signed. These include: the Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia for 2025–2026; the Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of Georgia on Cooperation and Mutual Administrative Assistance in Customs Matters; the Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of Georgia on Cooperation in Plant Protection; the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Sports between the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Sports of Georgia.

On the same day, members of the delegation of Turkmenistan held bilateral meetings with their Georgian colleagues, during which priority issues of cooperation in a number of sectors were discussed.

As part of the official visit, a cultural program was organized for the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze.

On the same day, having completed the program of the official visit to Turkmenistan, the head of the Georgian Government departed from Ashgabat.
