Since the first days of independence, Turkmenistan has firmly adhered to the policy of good-neighbourly relations, actively engaged in a constructive dialogue with the states of Central Asia. This can be confirmed by visits to the countries of the region, including friendly and fraternal Kazakhstan. At each of these meetings, the heads of state review the state and prospects of Turkmen-Kazakh relations, discuss priority areas for further development of cooperation in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres.
Experts of the region note the high level of cooperation achieved over the 30-year period after the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, based on centuries-old ties of friendship and good neighborliness, deep cultural and spiritual ties between fraternal peoples. At meetings, the leaders of the two countries confirm the invariability of the course towards the comprehensive strengthening of Turkmen-Kazakh relations and bringing bilateral cooperation to a qualitatively new level of interaction, which meets the fundamental interests of the two fraternal peoples and serves as a factor in ensuring peace and stability in the region.
The Strategic Partnership Agreement between the countries, signed in April 2017, sets out the main prospects for the development of relations between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
The document, for example, noted as a priority the need for close cooperation within the framework of regional and international organizations, the importance of developing and deepening regional cooperation within the format of consultative meetings of the heads of state of Central Asia.
Recently, against the backdrop of a difficult international situation, both Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are unanimous in the need to increase the role of the UN and its institutions in solving global issues, ensuring sustainable development, as well as joining the efforts of the international community against acts of aggression that pose a threat to international security.
Not the last role in strengthening friendly relations between the two countries is played by joint economic projects, trade, cultural and humanitarian ties. The transport corridor «China-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran» has its own development. Considerable transit prospects for cooperation open up in the implementation of rail transportation along the «Uzen-Gyzylgaya-Bereket-Etrek-Gorgan» highway.
Year by year, cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, which is the foundation of interstate relations, is expanding. Interaction in the field of education, science and healthcare is being activated. Days of culture are held.
