Today, the capital has hosted a regular meeting of the General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee of Turkmenistan. Within the framework of its agenda, the report on the activity of NOC for 2016-2021 was heard and the issues connected with election of the President of the National Olympic Committee of the country were considered.
Head of the state Serdar Berdimuhamedov was elected unanimously President of the National Olympic Committee of Turkmenistan.
As was underlined, in the modern epoch national sports obtained a great impulse and came out to the qualitatively new levels. Independent neutral Turkmenistan confidently strengthens its position as sports country and centre for organization of large regional and international competitions. Thanks to the far-sighted strategy initiated by Hero Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, along with sports of highest achievements, the mass physical training and health movement assumed a progressive dynamics in our country and principles of healthy lifestyle are actively developed in our society.
In the New Epoch of the Powerful State under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who is an honoured coach of Turkmenistan, a complex work is carried on in the country regularly to encourage and support all roundly physical training and sports, to modernize the profile infrastructure and create optimal conditions for sportsmen and their coaches, other relevant specialists. At that, a great significance is given for fruitful cooperation and mutually beneficial exchange of experience with foreign partners in the given sphere.
As a member of the International Olympic Committee, Olympic Council of Asia, and UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee on Physical Culture and Sports, Turkmenistan makes a worthy contribution to the development of the Olympic movement, realization of its humane principles at the country, regional and global levels. The initiatives of our country in the given area assume a wide support and recognition of the world community. It also testifies to the success of national sports diplomacy urged to facilitate to unite people around everlasting universal values, to strengthen peace and concordance on the planet and relations of friendship between countries and peoples.
Among bright achievements of our country in the field of sports are the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which were held with triumph in Ashgabat in 2017, “Amul-Khazar” International Auto rally and Weightlifting Championship, which our country hosted in 2018.
Regular participation of Turkmen athletes in prestigious international competitions, where they gain wonderful successes, speaks of visual results of the progressive state policy of Turkmenistan in sports. Therefore, in 2021, new glorious pages opened in the history of national sports. As known, at the XXXII Summer Olympic Games, which were held in Tokyo (Japan) in the past year, our compatriot Polina Guryeva, who performed in weightlifting, won a silver medal, which became first Olympic award in the history of our country. This high achievement has encouraged Turkmen sportsmen into further improvement of their skill and winning new victories in the prestigious international competitions.
In this connection, it was noted that the Resolution of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed on April 22, of 2022, approved the Organizing Committee for Preparation of national teams of Turkmenistan for the 33th Summer Olympic Games and 17th Summer Paralympic Games to be held in Paris (French Republic) in 2024 and its staff. At present, training sessions are held in sports facilities of the Olympic village and Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports for our athletes. Preparation of our sportsmen for other large tournaments also goes on.
Proceeding form this, taking into account the weighty contribution in the development of national sports and international Olympic movement, augmentation of sports image of our fatherland on the world arena, President of Turkmenistan, honoured coach of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov was elected President of the National Olympic Committee of the country.
Within the margins of the meeting, a number of other organizational issues were also considered.
At the end of the meeting of the General Assembly of NOC, its participants adopted a message to President of Turkmenistan, President of the National Olympic Committee of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov in which they expressed their sincere gratitude for his all-round support to national sports, creation of conditions for improvement of skill of Turkmen athletes and ensured that they will further make their best efforts to solve successfully the tasks set before them.
