Meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a meeting of the heads of the healthcare system of the country and the heads of diplomatic missions of Turkmenistan accredited abroad.

Meeting participants highly evaluated the comprehensive preventive measures carried out under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to prevent the emergence and spread of coronavirus and other dangerous infections in the country.

Particular attention was paid to the importance of the initiatives and proposals put forward by the President of Turkmenistan within the framework of various international healthcare platforms. It was reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to further develop and strengthen cooperation with WHO and other authoritative international structures.

Turkmenistan coordinates multilateral efforts with specialized UN agencies and other international organizations and countries of the world with the aim to deepen partnership and combat the pandemic, overcoming its consequences.

In this regard, the emphasis was placed on global UN decisions to counter the current pandemic. To promote coordinated international action against COVID-19, relevant resolutions were adopted, within the frameworks of which UN bodies and agencies strongly reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism despite the emergency.

It was underlined the particular importance of the Resolution "Strengthening ties between all modes of transport to ensure stable and reliable international transport for sustainable development in the period and after the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic", adopted by the UN General Assembly at the initiative of Turkmenistan.

This document underlined the necessity for greater efforts and alignment with the response in the face of unprecedented threats to human health around the world.

Those speaking during the meeting, commenting on the current epidemiological situation in the host countries, informed about the forms to combat COVID-19 and minimize its socio-economic and humanitarian consequences implemented at the state, regional and global level.

Moreover, it was underlined the importance of the systematic exchange of views and professional experience in the field of health care by leading experts and specialists of Turkmenistan’s partner countries.

Meeting participants expressed their gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the constant support of the work of Turkmen diplomats, assuring that they would continue the productive dialogue with the international community in the field of medicine to fight against threats and challenges to human health.
