Talks between President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

On November 27, negotiations were held in the capital between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who arrived in our country on a two-day state visit.

Officials met the head of Turkey at the Ashgabat International Airport, decorated with the national flags of the two friendly countries. A guard of honor was lined up along the carpet leading from the plane ladder in honor of the arrival of the distinguished guest.

According to the established good tradition, a boy and a girl in national costumes presented the Turkish leader with bread and salt and flowers.

From the air harbor, the motorcade of the head of a friendly state, accompanied by an honorary escort of motorcyclists, proceeded to the Independence Square located in the center of Ashgabat.

Here President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was cordially greeted by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. After exchanging friendly handshakes, the heads of the two countries go to a specially installed podium.

At the end of the ceremony of official photographing against the background of the State flags of the two countries, the Turkmen leader invites the Turkish leader to enter the hall for bilateral meetings, where high-level talks were held in a one-on-one format.

Once again warmly welcoming the distinguished guest, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov thanked the Turkish leader for accepting the invitation to pay a state visit to Turkmenistan.

Our country attaches great importance to the development of comprehensive ties with the Republic of Turkey, the head of state stressed, expressing confidence that the results of the current summit meeting are designed to help strengthen interstate dialogue based on the common historical roots and spiritual and cultural values of the two fraternal peoples.

Expressing his heartfelt gratitude to the Turkmen leader for the invitation to visit Turkmenistan on a state visit and the warm welcome, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reaffirmed the desire of the Republic of Turkey to give a new impetus to strengthening of strategic partnership.

The interlocutors noted with satisfaction the dynamic pace of development of the bilateral partnership. According to the unanimous opinion of Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the current high level of interaction between our countries has been achieved thanks to the steadily growing reciprocal desire of the two fraternal states to deepen a sincere and trusting dialogue, filling it with new content in the spirit of time and progressive changes.

Special emphasis was placed on the significant role of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Turkish Commission on Economic Cooperation.

At the end of the Turkmen-Turkish one-on-one talks, a ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place.

In the presence of the heads of state, the following are signed: An agreement on cooperation between the State News Agency of Turkmenistan and the Anatolian Agency; Memorandum of Understanding between the State News Agency of Turkmenistan and the Turkish TV and Radio Company; Memorandum of Understanding between the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Television, Radio Broadcasting and Cinematography and the Turkish TV and Radio Company; Memorandum of Understanding between the State Association “Turkmen Atlary” and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey on cooperation in the horse breeding industry; Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on cooperation in the field of health care and medical sciences; Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on a joint Turkmen-Turkish secondary school, Charter of a joint Turkmen-Turkish secondary school; Memorandum of Understanding between the Central Bank of Turkmenistan and the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey on cooperation; Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey on cooperation in protocol matters.

To the applause of those present, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan put their signatures on the Joint Statement.

At the end of the signing ceremony, the heads of the two states addressed the media.

Voicing the results of the summit meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and all members of the delegation of the Republic of Turkey for constructive negotiations, which took place in an atmosphere of openness, mutual trust and understanding.

As noted, special attention was paid to the issue of strengthening global peace, stability and security. Focusing on the coincidence or similarity of the views of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey on many issues of international politics, which is a clear confirmation of the successful interaction of the two countries on the world stage, the leader of the nation noted that the practice of coordinated joint actions will be continued within the framework of the United Nations and other authoritative international organizations. and providing mutual support.

In order to effectively combat the universal threats of our time - international terrorism, drug trafficking and transnational organized crime, our countries will continue to cooperate in specific areas. Such interaction will be carried out on bilateral basis and within the framework of international organizations, the leader of the nation said.

The head of state also drew the attention of media representatives to the fact that Turkmenistan and Turkey will continue coordinated actions to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan.

Touching upon the topic of bilateral economic partnership, which is a strategic direction in relations between Turkmenistan and Turkey, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that an agreement was reached on close cooperation and joint efforts in creating transport and transit corridors along the East-West route passing through the territories of our countries. This, in particular, is true about the Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey corridor, the head of state said, stressing the importance of using the potential of the maritime infrastructure in the Caspian Sea, first of all, the Turkmenbashi international seaport, to establish effective transport links between the Caspian and Black Sea regions.

In cooperation in the energy sector, an agreement was reached to intensify joint efforts to create a multi-vector system of energy supplies to international markets, including Europe. Here, as a decisive condition for ensuring overall energy security, Turkmenistan and Turkey stand for further diversification of energy resources.

During the negotiations, the sides noted with satisfaction the nature of consistent, interested and mutually beneficial trade relations between Turkmenistan and Turkey.

Speaking about the importance of contacts in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, the head of state emphasized that at the meeting a desire was expressed to continue to build up cooperation in this direction, to develop relations between cultural workers of the two countries, to hold Culture Days on annual basis, and to expand cooperation in the field of science and education through higher educational institutions.

Expressing special gratitude to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his great personal attention to cooperation with our country, the leader of the nation expressed great satisfaction with the results of the visit, during which a solid package of bilateral documents was signed in various fields.

Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey reaffirmed their aspiration and commitment to long-term, promising and multilateral cooperation. This meets the fundamental interests of the peoples of our countries, serves their well-being and prosperity, makes a significant contribution to the consolidation and maintenance of peace, security and stability on the planet, said Head of State Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

At the end of his speech, the leader of the nation addressed wishes of peace and prosperity to the fraternal Turkish people.

Commenting on the results of the summit meeting, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, once again thanking his Turkmen counterpart for the hospitality and the excellent conditions for fruitful work, noted that the results of today's talks will strengthen the ties of friendship between the two fraternal peoples, open new horizons for the withdrawal of interstate partnerships to new strategic heights.

The distinguished guest congratulated President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the entire Turkmen people on a significant date - the 30th anniversary of state independence, celebrated this year, stressing that Turkey was the first state to recognize the status of independence of Turkmenistan, and the country that was among the first to open an Embassy in Ashgabat.

In continuation, the Turkish leader noted that the participation of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the Summit of the heads of the Turkic-speaking states held recently in Istanbul and the entry of Turkmenistan as an observer into this Organization increased the importance of the forum.

Noting the importance of cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, the Turkish leader said that a mutual desire was expressed to build up fruitful contacts in the areas of culture, science and education, as well as in the field of youth policy and sports.

Speaking about the significance of the bilateral documents signed today and the Joint Statement of the Heads of State, the distinguished guest expressed confidence that they would replenish the legal framework of interstate relations and give a powerful impetus to further development of cooperation. 

At the end of his speech, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan once again expressed gratitude to the Turkmen leader for the hospitality.

Upon finalization of the press conference, a solemn ceremony of awarding the President of the Republic of Turkey with the state award of Turkmenistan took place.

Today, the head of state continued, on the ancient Turkmen land we are receiving with great honor the delegation headed by the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is widely known throughout the world as a prominent political figure. Thanks to his creative activities and high professionalism in a leadership position, the leader of a friendly country has done a great job not only to move Turkey forward, but also to ensure peace and sustainable development at the international level.

We highly appreciate special attention and personal contribution of Recep Tayyip Erdogan to strengthening the bonds of friendship and brotherhood between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

As the leader of the nation noted, for a significant personal contribution to strengthening the independence and sovereignty of Turkmenistan, the development of political, economic, scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey, strengthening of the international prestige of our country by state and public activities, as well as taking into account the merits in effective assistance to Turkmenistan in improving the efficiency of education of the younger generation and training highly qualified specialists, it was decided to award the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan with the Order of Turkmenistan “Hyzmatdaşlygy ösdürmäge goşandy üçin”.

Then, to the applause of the audience, in a solemn atmosphere, the leader of the nation presented the order “Hyzmatdaşlygy ösdürmäge goşandy üçin” to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Having expressed deep gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for this honor, the distinguished guest stressed that he considers this decision and award as a symbol of centuries-old friendship between the two fraternal peoples, a clear evidence of the mutual desire to further rapprochement of our countries, to building up interstate strategic partnership.

Having once again cordially thanked the leader of the nation for the high state award presented to him, the head of Turkey addressed his best wishes to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the entire Turkmen people.

In the evening, the head of Turkmenistan gave an official dinner in honor of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, at which the leaders of the two countries exchanged speeches.
